Know the traffic rules before you buy or rent a car. Make sure you are dealing with a reputable dealer. Be extra careful when buying a second hand car and ask for a guarantee that the odometer accuracy.

Renting a Car

You can rent a car at the airport. If you’re arriving during a holiday period it’s best to book in advance. You must have a valid drivers licence (you can use an International Driver’s licence). Remember the golden rule is “KEEP LEFT” and wear your safety belts and stay within the speed limit. Please don’t drink and drive.

After a long flight it is advisable not to drive even if you feel one hundred percent. Hire a taxi, airport bus, shuttle or a bus; you’ll be glad you did.  It also gives you time to acclimatise to the “keep left” rule, as many overseas visitors have accidents because they’re not used to driving on the other side of the road.

Buying A Vehicle

It is possible to check with an LTSA agent that a vehicle is not reported as stolen and that it is registered and licensed. To obtain this information you will be required to complete an application form, present identification and pay the fee of $2.25.
