One acre is 0.4046 hectares or 4046m². Large sections in NZ are just over 1000m²,   commonly referred to as 1/4 acre block/section which was the ultimate kiwi dream for residential land. Today sections are much smaller and can even be less than 500m².

One hectare is 2.47 acres. Five hectares is 12.36 acres

There are limitations on size of land that foreigners can purchase.
