New Zealanders treasure and protect their unique coastline and beach access. So, available beachfront properties are few and far between and no developments can take place without resource consent.
Beachfront high-rises or condos tend to be the exception , as are houses with exclusive access to the beach. And, most seaside houses are holiday homes or what New Zealanders call in the North Island a ‘bach’ and in the far south a ‘crib.’ Some can be little more than shelter with a couple of beds and the bare basics, although that has changed considerably over time.
While our website doesn’t have a special category for beachfront property, the property description would give a clear indication if it has beach access.
