A piece of bare land is called a section in New Zealand. A larger block of land (for example 10 acres outside the city) is called a lifestyle block. Sections vary in size and shape. As a general rule hillside sections are more expensive than sections on flat land. A section with sea, an estuary, lake, mountains and stream views is as a general rule more expensive than a section without these features.
Urban sections are within a designated urban area, while lifestyle blocks provide a different option on the fringes of cities and towns and land per hectare is more expensive than rural land.
The inherent characteristics and size of a farm will dictate its use and value.
